A LOOK BACK AT BACKDOOR MARKET’s first RUNAWAY

On 13th of June 2023, Backdoor Market presented its newest collection “Pain, Uncertainty & Constant work”. The capsule collection contemplates over the key elements of street culture but through a personal lens on the sustainability and pollution issues in contemporary fashion. It is Backdoor Market's continued venture into creating an original streetwear label and movement that is environmentally conscious, practical and sincere in its workings.

The concept behind “Pain, Uncertainty & Constant Work” comes from the idea that these 3 principles serve as fundamental and inescapable truths, as in, no matter what, they prove to be inherent and intertwined throughout a person's life. The only way forward from such persistent affliction, ambiguity and constant labor is by learning how to live with it.

So, in presenting a fusion of the past and the present, Backdoor Market has given a new life to fashion garments that have served their time. With using zero waste and upcycling methods, the collection embodies the discomfort of existing and working in fashion at a space & time that is fast-paced - an unforgiving moment in which it is vital to push through with resistance and remain veritable. For Backdoor Market, the collection is an acknowledgment of the 3 central emotions that constitute not only their presence in the everyday, but also the creation process itself.

The June 13th fashion show juxtaposes Backdoor Market's message against the misinterpretation of street culture so often done by fast-fashion. As a response to the ongoing “cultural crisis”, Backdoor Market presents itself to be a sustainable streetwear community, movement and label. The intersection of various domains during the show created a bold, collaborative and unique experience. With mixing seemingly different but somewhat matching energies from the Latvian art, music, skateboarding and fashion scenes, the show was an eclectic, phenomenal event, an homage to the unavoidable pain, uncertainty and constant work. Thus, Backdoor Market adds an Eastern European vigor to the discourse of authentic and sustainable fashion brands in Europe
